Video Otoscope
At the Cheyenne Pet Clinic, we are always looking for new techniques and equipment to help us take care of your pet. Video Otoscopy is an exciting new field of diagnostics and treatment. This high-tech instrument is a tiny color digital camera connected to a tapered probe that we use to perform examinations deep inside the ear, nose or throat. It transmits images to a monitor so that the ear canal and eardrum can be visualized clearly. Pictures of these images can be printed out for your pet's record or for you to take home.
Short endoscopes such as the Video Otoscope can be used in many ways to improve our diagnosis and treatment of common problems of the ear or throat. We use the camera to diagnosis and treat ear infections, polyps, and blockages; and to pinpoint dental of throat conditions as well as genitourinary problems. The Video Otoscope also allows us to treat serious ear problems because it has an attachment which allows deep ear cleaning, often the first and most effective step in therapy. In addition, the Video Otoscope can be used to perform surgery in conjunction with our laser. We can also perform biopsies deep in the ear canal, remove foreign objects and determine the condition of the ear drum.
An entire new line of antibiotics and flushes made especially for ear disease are available as well.

Rattlesnake Venom Vaccine now available!
Rattlesnakes are a threat to all dogs that spend time in rural areas, but the dogs at the greatest risk are those that hunt with their owners. Treatment is expensive, not always immediately available, and gives no guarantee that the dog will survive the snakebite. A rattlesnake venom vaccine is available and is reported to provide a degree of immunity to the toxic components of rattlesnake venom. Dogs receiving the vaccine should be given two doses, 3 to 6 weeks apart. Annual boosters should be administered in the spring, or before the hunting season. Owners with dogs that have received the vaccine should still seek treatment by a veterinarian if their dogs are bitten. If you are interested in the vaccine, please ask us. For additional information, visit the vaccine manufacturer's website, www.redrockbiologics.com. |
